How to Remove Negativities in Your Life

Negative inner dialogue or self talk holds us back fromhaving all the things we most desire.

Are you a victim of this type of self talk?

Here’s a quick way to stop your negative inner-talk…

* Be Aware.

If you’re feeling tense, anxious, upset, angry, etc. then chances are there’s some level of negative self talk going on.

When you feel these physical symptoms *immediately* check to see what chatter is going on inside your mind?

* Flip Switch.

You may not be able to relieve the physical symptoms instantly, but you can take control and “reverse” them with a little practice.

The best way to ‘consciously’ rid yourself of negative self talk is to deliberately “flip switch” your thoughts to something more pleasant. Something that you’re grateful for. Something that gives you happiness.

The ‘big trick’ is to start being more consciously aware of your thoughts and emotions – because then you can start to take control of them!

Are you saying to yourself right now that it’s too hard?  That you’re just not able to do it?

If you are: simply remind yourself that “you are the boss”, not some nagging voice in your head.

It takes practice – but the rewards for you are endless!

Philippine Talismans and Amulets

Talismans and amulets, called anting-anting or agimat in Philippine esoteric lore, are very much part of the Filipinos’ fascination with the supernatural and how one can possibly tap into the unseen spiritual forces to influence events or materialize favorable circumstances in one’s life.

In the Philippine esoteric and occult tradition, there is always a corresponding anting-anting or agimat intended to address certain areas in one’s life which normally will fall under any of the following categories – personal power and protection, success in business and career, success in love life and relationships, and healing. In that sense, I can consider talismans and amulets as “lifelines” relevant to the theme of this blog.

Is there something in life that is bothering you and you seem to have reached your normal limits in addressing it? Then get the right anting-anting or agimat. The matter might just be resolved.

I know that there are a lot of people who are skeptical of this but you can meet a lot of people (assuming you know where to find them) who can testify to the efficacy of Philippine talismans and amulets in their possession. They can give testimonies very much like the testimonies of born-again Christians or charismatics in religious gatherings – of how great things that happened in their lives once they started attending a religious congregation or started having a personal relationship with their own version of God; or as in the case of the antingeros, as we call them in the Philippines, how things improved for them once they started wearing a particular anting-anting or agimat.

I would like to feature some of the most popular Philippine talismans and amulets in my future posts in recognition of this particular aspect of Philippine spirituality.

Grow Your Roots First

The plant always grows in two ways.

The visible growth is the branches, twigs, leaves, and fruits.

But beneath the visible growth is the invisible growth– the network of roots underneath the ground.

And all that visible growth is totally dependent on the invisible growth beneath the ground.

In the same way, if you want to grow your outer wealth, you need to grow your inner wealth.

So many people are so focused on their outer growth:

they want their money to grow.

They want their profit to rise.

They want their business to expand.

They want to get promoted.

But they miss the point.

If you want outer prosperity, you need to work on your inner prosperity.

The tree is quite a good analogy to illustrate how we manifest the good things in life that we want to have. Start inward and grow your roots figuratively and literally. These are the talents and in-born capabilities you have. Let them grow and develop first. They are your foundation for anything that you want to manifest in your external world. If you have not been manifesting anything significant – like a tree bearing luscious fruits, the problem may not be in your outside world (manifesting, for example, as your perceived lack of opportunities) but in your inner world. You are not attracting the opportunities because your inner world is not aligned with them.

Take an inventory or what is happening within yourself. Are you in a mess internally? You will be attracting an equal mess outside – just as a heap of garbage will attract flies! You will be meeting jerks and all kinds of people who will have no other agenda than to put you down to further mess.

If you want to attract butterflies, then grow a garden.

There is something even more instructive in the analogy of a tree that has grown deep roots. It becomes more resilient in adapting itself to negative external circumstances. It can resist strong winds and even in times of drought, it can draw water deep down from the earth’s reservoirs, while other plants with shallow roots will simply wither and die.

Grow your roots and then, grow the flowers!

Any kind of relationship improves with communication: friends, co-workers, children, bosses.

If talking about certain subjects is hard for you, start with easy subjects. Talk about anything. Then work your way back to the problems. Persist until the relationship is succeeding.

Whenever you have doubts about something, COMMUNICATE! Talk, talk, talk until the problem resolves. When you feel stress, disagreement or resistance between you and someone near to you, the wrong thing to do is ignore the problem. Instead, start communicating.

Lack of communication, more often than not, is the main reason for failed relationships.

The Mayan Calendar’s December 21, 2012 “End of the World Prophecy”

After the May 21, 2011 end of the world fiasco created by Harold Camping and his cult, expect the doomsday prophets and doomsday aficionados to now focus their attention to the so-called “Mayan prophecy” about another possible end of the world by December 21, 2012. It will be the turn of the New Age prophets to scare the world – pick up from where Camping and his followers stumbled and fell smack on their face.

Fortunately, because of the May 21, 2011 brouhaha, the world’s population will have a more guarded response this time and will resist in freely giving attention to the equally publicity-hungry New Age prophets of doom who are too willing to grab at anything that can be used to conjure end-of-the-world scenarios – from a roaming black sheep planet called Nibiru and to yes, a dumb calendar that abruptly ends on a date corresponding to December 21, 2012.

Dream Interpretation

I occasionally get requests from friends, who are familiar with my interest in dreams, to possibly interpret their dream.

Like last night when out of the blue, I received a phone call from a friend who was asking me the possible meaning of a series of baffling dreams. These requests are normally based on the belief that dream images have very definite or fixed meanings. And all that one needs to do to to interpret his or her dream is to consult a dream dictionary or just ask someone who is familiar with dream symbols and their meaning.

I do not fully agree with this approach. Although occasionally, one can perhaps have a dream whose meaning is so obviously associated with commonly accepted meaning of dream images or symbols, I believe that basically, the meaning of dream images is something very personal. Hence the best way to possibly interpret it is to refer to the dreamer’s personal association of meaning with  his or her dream images or symbols. Such personal meaning is normally formed by the dreamer’s personal experiences. A particular dream image may mean one thing to a person but may mean differently to another person who has a very different background or contextual experience.

Take, for example, a dream of finding coins scattered on a pathway. For a job seeker, that dream may signify a wish fulfillment to find a job. The coins he stumbles on may symbolize possible jobs and the act of picking one up may symbolize the act of taking a job offer. But the same dream, within the context of a rich businessman’s experience, may acquire a totally different meaning. The scattered coins on the pathway may symbolize carelessness with which he manages “small things” in life. The dream’s message might be for him to reconsider and give proper importance for those things that he may be taking for granted which may ultimately also prove to be important in his life.

We can go on and cite examples of these possible shifts in meaning of dream images or symbols. The act of climbing in a dream, for one who experiences constraints in his or her personal freedom, might indicate the desire to be free – as in climbing a prison wall to experience more freedom in the other side of the fence. On the other hand, for a person who has too much freedom and living a carefree life, the same act of climbing may indicate the desire to seek more challenges as a way to find personal fulfillment.

Interpreting a dream boils down to finding these personal association with dream symbols or images. If you have an interesting dream and want to decode what it might mean, I suggest that you take an inventory or list down what your dream images may mean to you in waking life. Then draw the possible interpretations by connecting possible meanings with what you are actually experiencing.

Does this mean then that interpreting dreams should be a purely personal activity and that one cannot meaningfully consult others in interpreting his or her dreams? Well, not necessarily. You can consult others but then, you must be willing to share personal information about the possible contexts with which you had incubated a dream.

A dream therapist or psychologist might be able to lead you to insights which you may not be able to do by yourself. We normally have our own blind spots in acknowledging possible concerns or issue in life that need to be addressed. That may prevent us from receiving the message our subconscious mind may be trying to convey to us through the dream.

In that sample dream about climbing I cited above, we may subconsciously not want to openly acknowledge an issue involving the need for a more challenging and adventurous environment. So on our own, we may not see that message or meaning through the dream and just continue to wonder what it may actually mean. Seeking the help of another person who can ask you the right questions about yourself might facilitate your uncovering of that possible layer of meaning in your dream.

But there is something else more radical that you can do. You can learn the art of dreaming and learn how to dream purposely as a way to gather intuitive knowledge or to create your reality. Learn how here.

Know the Limits

There is this story about a farmer who encountered a genie who gave him the opportunity to expand his farmland. The genie told the farmer that he could have all the land that he can encircle running within one day. Exerting his best effort, the farmer ran at the fastest speed he could muster to encircle as much land area as possible. Halfway into the day, the farmer had already encircled a vast track of land that he could cultivate for the rest of his life, sufficient to provide abundantly for his family and perhaps several generations of his descendants. But the day was not over and he had still several hours of sunlight to continue running. Why should he stop and start relaxing when he can still have more land?

With that in mind, the farmer geared himself to run some more to maximize his opportunity – until panting with exhaustion, he simply dropped dead on the road..
